Dicker House Preschool - Quiz, Chilli and Nacho Night

 

On Thursday the 25th of March, the team at Dicker House Preschool are holding a “Quiz, Chilli and Nacho Night” at the Woolpack in Burgess Hill

 

Teams of up to 6 people are welcome to take part.

 

For the winning team, there'll be a bottle of wine for each member, and one member of the winning team will also get a champagne 3-course lunch for two at Ockenden Manor

 

Tickets for the event are just £5 per person, which includes a chilli and nacho dinner – and all proceeds from the evening to to the Dicker House Pre School

 

Tickets are available from Emma Turner at the school, or from the Help Point in Burgess Hill Town Centre

 

 

 

The Burnside Day Centre - Spring Fair on 23rd March

 

The Burnside Day Centre is a facility just off Victoria Road in Burgess Hill, working to help adults with learning disabilities

 

The team at the centre are holding their Spring Fair on Tuesday the 23rd of March from 10am-midday.

 

On the day, there'll be woodwork, crafts and textiles on sale - with many of the items made by the people who attend Burnside. There'll also be refreshments and homemade cakes on sale.

 

All the proceeds from the fair will help increase the independence of our customers, developing their skills and helping them to become more self-sufficient.

 

 

 

4 Sight's Hassocks Contact Club - Cook required

 

4 Sight's Hassocks Contact Club are currently searching for a cook, so they can continue to help those in the community with a visual impairment.

 

The Club meets alternate Wednesdays, and serves a midday lunch for around thirty people.

 

If you have good cookery skills, are organised, enjoy working with people and can work to a budget then this would be ideal for you.

 

In addition, 4Sight are looking for people to help with activities at the Mary Parsons Club in Haywards Heath. The club meets every Wednesday from 10am-2.30pm, and organises handicrafts, games, entertainment, refreshments and occasional outings for blind and partially sighted people.

The Citizens Advice Bureaux - Volunteers required

 

The Citizens Advice Bureaux in Mid Sussex are now open every weekday from 9.30am-3.30pm – and, as a result, they are looking for more volunteers to help in a variety of roles – including receptionists, advisers, admin support and fundraisers.

 

Their next training sessions get under way in April, so if you have time to spare, have good communication skills, are able to work as part of a team and can be non-judgemental and impartial – then now is the time to get in touch

Cancer Journey (Cuckfield) - Volunteers needed

 

‘Cancer Journey' is a Cuckfield based charity, which has been set up to ensure that everyone affected by cancer can find the information they need at the time they need it.

 

They provide a Helpline, open 10am - 4pm 7 days week, as well as a website with a comprehensive enquiry service.

 

The charity is completely reliant on donations and proceeds from fundraising events - so volunteers are needed to organise (and assist at) local events, and help raise awareness of the service through distribution of leaflets.

Cancer Research UK - Shop Assistant

 

The Cancer Research UK Shop in Haywards Heath is looking for volunteers to help with general shop work, including the sorting and pricing of goods, as well as working on the till.

 

The shop is open Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5pm, and volunteers generally work either a morning or afternoon.

Burgess Hill Toy Library - Volunteers required

 

The Burgess Hill Toy Library is looking for new volunteers at their weekly sessions, in order to help with crafts and activities, and to assist in the serving of refreshments.

 

If you enjoy meeting people, have good communication skills and are available on a Wednesday afternoon between 2pm and 4.30pm (ideally each week), call the Volunteer Centre on 01444 870 711

 

 

 

St Andrew's Trust and Community Centre - Volunteers required

 

The St Andrew's Trust and Community Centre in Burgess Hill are looking for volunteers to assist in their new ‘Puzzle Café', which is open every Monday, Thursday and Friday between 9.30am and 2pm.

 

No qualifications are necessary as some basic training will be provided, and it isn't necessary to be available every week.

West Sussex Youth Offending Team – Volunteers required

 

The West Sussex Youth Offending Team are looking for volunteers to support young people in police custody where their parents or carers cannot attend.

 

Training sessions are taking place early 2010, and they are looking for people who would be willing to work 2-3 shifts per month.An interest in helping young people and in the criminal justice system is required as well as good communication skills, patience, a non judgemental attitude and an ability to cope with working in a busy environment.

The Burgess Hill District Lions Club - Fundraising Concert

 

On Saturday 17th April 2010, the Burgess Hill District Lions Club are putting on a fundraising concert in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The event is being held at the Martlets Hall in Burgess Hill, and will feature local band The Hillbillies plus support from special guests including The Chris Green Project.

Age Concern - Saturday Club

 

Age Concern in Haywards Heath run a twice-monthly Saturday Club, which offers support to carer's of people with Dementia.

 

For nearly four years, the club has helped many carers enjoy a days break, knowing that their loved ones are in a safe and caring environment.The Saturday Club is open every 2nd and 4th Saturday in the month at the Age Concern Day Centre in Perrymount Road , Haywards Heath.It costs £15 a day to attend. The day centre provides a full care service, lunch, entertainment and refreshments within the cost. Transport can be arranged if needed too.

National Talking Newspapers/Magazines - Volunteers required

 

'National Talking Newspapers and Magazines' is a registered charity which brings print to life by transcribing a wide variety of popular newspapers and magazines into a range of accessible formats for the blind or visually impaired.  Volunteers are needed to come into their studios in Heathfield to be the ‘voice' of various newspapers and magazines - which are then put onto CD and cassette.   No previous experience is required, but all potential readers will be asked to an audition to check their suitability. Full support and training is given.

Cancervive Support Groups

 

Cancervive is a local organisation offering help to families, friends and colleagues of cancer patients. They hold 3 separate support groups all dealing with a different aspect of support. They also have a special support line, which is open every Monday and Thursday evening.

Southdown Housing Association - West Sussex Signpost Service

 

If you're struggling to solve housing-related problems, such as debt, homelessness or anti-social behaviour from neighbours – there is an advice surgery in Burgess Hill that may be able to help. The “West Sussex Signpost Service” surgery is run by Southdown Housing Association, and is held on the second Friday of each month, from 9.30-11.30am at the Burgess Hill Help Point in Church Walk The Signpost Service is available to anyone who needs advice or support to help resolve their housing related issues. The facility provides telephone advice, face-to-face support, plus referral onto specialist care and support services.
